The case-against O‘Neil is a unique
one. according to the government's
[version of the facts. O'Neil is charged
Jointly with William Bantl, who was, a
"trusty" at the Jail. with conspiracy'to
forgo the name of a payee to a United
states postal money order and with
uttering the forged order knowing the
same to be forged.
A prisoner at the tall last summer.
John Barylskl. was the payee named in
the :10 order which came in the mail
from Greenwich. it is alleged by the
government postal inspectors that an-
der the coitml and instruction of
O'Neil, who had access to all the mail
coming into the jail, Bantl forged
Baryiski's endorsement, and that
Bantl and O'Neil received the proceeds
from tba forged order.
O'Neil denies the charges against
him and Bantl stands on a plea of not
guilty to the conspiracy, though it is
said that he will admit tinkering the
order. but will not admit that 0"Neli
had anything to do with it.
