Hon. Jeremiah Donovan was elected mayor of the City of Norwalk, today, by a
majority of seventy-six votes, defeateing Mayor Carl Axel Harstrom. Mr. Donovan’ 8
total vote was 1862, and Mayor Harstrom received 1886.
The Democrats and Republicans each elected four members of the Board” of Coun-
cilmen, the Democartic members being Dr. Robert M Wolfe, William J. Moore,
Charles A. Volk, of the Second Ward, and Frank L. Clarke, of the Fourth Ward. The
. Republicans elected were George D Russell, Edgar G. Murphy, Albert T. Eldridge A
‘ I I and GeorgeW. Stevens, two being from the First Ward, one from the Third Ward
and one from the Fifth Wardd.
Robert G. Mitchell was again elected tax collector, receiving the same majority
as did Mr. Donovan for mayor" Wilfred Bodwell lost out in the race for city treasur-
er, being defeated by Herbert A. Mathewson, and strangely enough Mr. Mathewson
changed the vote so he won by seventy-six majority. '

The question on the Norwaik Hospital, whereby the city was tocontribute to the
support of the institution, was lost, the vote being: Yes, 677; no, 1014.
The amendments to the charter were lost by three votes, and the charter will not~~
be disturbed during the next two years.
The voters decided to return to the district school system, the vote being 978 for
the old plan, to 850 for the present one.
