During the whole of this summer
war service work has almost entirely
monopollaed the attention of Connec-
ticut Suragists. .The meetings of the
Central War Service Commitee have
become ofhlmost more importance
than the meetings of the ExecutiVe
Board. and the reports of work done

Commltee. cover practically all the
most active work that is going on At

One of the greatest needs that wo
men can assist to fill, is just now the
need of petrol women for the camps.
It. is generally agreed that It takes wo-
men for this duty—a duty that is
practically impossible for men. The
object of having such patrol women
is to guard against the frequenting or
the. camps by Women of undesirable
character and also to keep w: 117:1. ove.

are naturally attracted by the pres

Such girls may mean no harm, and
the men may mean no harm by them. ~
but they need to be protected against
themselves, «and the experience in
England has plainly shown that the
only safe way of protecting” them is
by the employment of pail 111 women.
There is a committee working under
the State Council of Dafense which
has undertaken this special line or
tactivitv, and the Suffragettes have no
.intentlon of duplicating such an organ
izatlon. They are anxious, howeVer,
-to cooperate with the committee. and
surugettes all oventhe state are asked __
to do their utmost to help in work con-
nected with the camps. The provi- 1
clan of wholesome amusement for the
line of the
same work, and near the camps no
men are already bestirrlng themselves
to fill this need. It is hardly fair,
however that the whole burden of the
work should fall on the. women who
happen to be near the camps. The sol-
diers belong to the whole state, and
any women who wish to aid in the
work will learn just how they may
cooperate by app ring to Suffrage
Headquarots in Hartford. or to the
Sucrose Oil-Imam of their own coun-
ty. The work Is not monopolized by
