The race riot of St. Louis came
near being duplicated here, Saturday
night about 9:30 o'clock on Washing-
ton street, when a mob of men caught
Robert Combs, colored, after he had
assaulted Frank Scofield with his fist.
nearly tearing an eyeball from its
socket, started to wreck vengeance
