l The new bonds make a double appeal—the appeal of patriot-
ism and a: business advantage. ‘
The country has assumed a great burden which every posses-
sor of wealth is bound in good morals to assist in shouldering.
The argument of patriotism is supplemented by the one of
business advantage. The 31/270 bonds are exempt from taxes, in-
cluding the income tax. In nonnal times they will go to a prem-
ium. They will furnish an investment stable beyond anything
ever known in this country. All this considered, the rate of return
is high. The bonds will enhance, not shrink in market value.
