The chimmney for several minutes;
looked like a blast furnace. Neighbors
tried to get a ladder, to throw salt‘
down the chimney, but no ladder long
enough to reach the root could be
found. A member of the family called
up Dugdale‘s store to get some one to,
ring the tire bell. Owing to most at
the volunteer firemen being away at
their business, it was some time be-
fore it was possible to get any one to
ring 'the bell. Meantime George Dugv
dale opened the fire. house and start-
ed to get out. hose cart, with the assis-
tance of four or five men. They con
nected the hose with a hydra..t but
this time it was not found necessary
to turn on water. Some one telephon-
ed the Noroton Heights department.
