No answer has been made to our charges that funds
to pay the campaign expenses of the Republican candidate
for Congress are procured from corporations and interests
seeking special legislation located within the confines of
this district. If accused or stealing chickens it never con-
dones the offense to try to put the burden on the shoulders
of the accuser and say thlt he committed a lesser ol‘lense.
Tuesday evening in the columns of The Sentinel we
published two letters writ;en by Mr. A. C. Wheeler, Mr
-Hlll's campaign manager. begging for funds for Mr. Hill from
Ml. James A. Farrell, of the Steel Trust, and to Mr. Wil-
l kie, of the Straw Board Manufatcurers' Association. The '
reply to this is the charge of “misrepresentation and tirade"
on our-part. . ,
This is the usual characteristic way that Mr. Hill
evades questions when confronted with facts which "are
stubborn things." Our candidate, Mr. Donovan, is also
accused of violating the law and that he spent $377.04 more
than he would have been allowed to spend had he appointell'
a political agent. Mr. Donovan realized and acknowledged
that fact when he certified to his campaign expenses. He
made an honest return and swore to it. It was his own
money and paid out of his own pocket and not collczted
out of any corporation with a promise to reciprocate for
favors bestowed.
THE 0UESTION BEFORE THE PUBLIC
IS A MORAL ONE. '
Shall the corporations and special interests be allowed
to finance the candidates tor Congress under the promise to
:ecuzrocate with tarifi and other legislation in return there-

Lynn W. Wilson has issued a challenge to Mr. Hill to
publicly discuss this question. He will come to Norwalk
next Saturday evening and tell the story of these transac-
tions as shown by the testimony produced at the trial of
the contetsed election case of Donovan vs. Hill, which began
in Stamford, July 12th, 1915.
If to expose hypocrisy and {al.‘e pretense is “misrepre-
sentation and “tirade," and there is no other answer to be
given, the public can draw its own conclusions.
