liam Cotter, for twenty-nine‘ years

has been impossible for a correct. er

Some time ago a large carriage
house, near the site of the present
barn, was struck by lightning, and
destroyed. Last year a large barn on-
the property of Jacob Kilns, a neigh-
destroycd with the loss of Its contents,
Including' a number of horses and
chickens. Thus It is, that the Nod
Hill section has earned a reputation
as a1lghtning attractor. It appears
that It Is living up to Its reputation.
The pole which Monte (‘risto tiled
in his diving act at Roton Point, was
struck by lightning ‘yesterdsy after-
noon. No damage was done beyond
burning oi! of a little of the white
paint.

Evidently it Is the supposition of
‘ the New Haven railroad that‘Its work-
men can come Into Norwslk 9nd erect
barracks for the accommodation of
‘iwo hundred men, without pnyingthe
slightest attention to the Nigwalk
building department as far as regards
permits for such work.
This misapprehension will soon be
straight‘ened out for the benefit of the?
railroad omcials. however, by Building
Inspector Finch.
A few days ago the railroad started
the construction of a number of lug...
sheds in the South Norwalk freight
yards, along the river front. No per-
mit was taken out by the railroad, and
the matter was soon brought to the at-
tention of the building inspector. who
has ordered the nedessary steps to be
‘taken by the persons in charge of the
work. It is expected that the com-
pany will comply with the requests oil
the building department.
MEETINGS AT THE SALVATION
ARMY.
This Saturday, at 8 p. m., and Sun-
day, at 11 a. m. and 8 p. m., there will
be special meetings at the Salvation
Army. 50 Water street. conducted by
Ensign and Mrs. Jerrett, of. Lynn,
Mass. The ensign Is well-known In
this city and a large crowd is antici-
pated. As Captain Jerrett the ensign
had charge of the local work some
few years ago.
During the past few weeks there has
been a good number of conversions at
the Army meetings and, although the
weather Has been rather warm, large
crowds have attended the meetings.
An electric fan is being installed
which will add to the comfort of those
attending the Army meeting.
