The annual meetings of the Hope
Hose and the Pioneer Fire Compan-
ies were held last nlgilt, ill the re-
spective houses, and officers were
elected for the coating year. After
the elections, the members did justice
to a turkey supper. These suppers
were held in all three houses last
evening. although the Phoenix Engine
Company had its regular business
meeting Monday night. Ninety mem-
bers of the 'Pioneer Company were
present, and the lllope Hose Company
entertained about one hundred antiI -
seventy-five members and friends.

day afternoon reserved decision in
the appeal of lsaac N. Williams. of;
67 Liberty street, Bridgeport, and
Harry Roe, a companion, on the,
charge of the murder of Hubert B.
C’ase, county commissioner and
store-keeper of Barkhamsted on No-
vember 28, 1914 All arguments were

Seeking New Trial.
A petition has already been filed in
the Litcllfield county Superior Court
asking for a new trial on the groundsi
that new evidence has been found.I
This is made returnfiable on the first
Tuesday in February. when the case
will be rcvicwed again. if the jus-
tices of the Supreme court find that
Judge Joel H. Reed erred in reopen-
ing the case after the prosecution,
this will obviate the petition filed in
thr “Superior Court and the case will
be heard at any rate.

are considerably slow as to the boat-
ing and activities in the local bar

The majority of the pleasure motor-
boats owned locally have been pulled
out of the watt-r and “Wrapped" up
for tile winter. Boats are stored near
.McMullen's. off Burritt avenue, near
Bayview avenue, on the East Side.
and near “Starch Creek" in the vi-

The Red Star :21 is being unloaded
of a cargo of coal at 'Rayrnond Bro
ther‘s dock. The Ferris Coal Com-
pany are unloading several hundred
tons of anthracite front the "Rising
'Star.” At the decks of the Norwallr
Iron Works a cargo of bituminous coal
is being unloaded.
The cargoless Oakes Amos, :1 three-
masted lumber schooner, is still all~
chored alongside the Hatch & Bailey

when two children, Whose names'
could not be ascertained, lost controi'
of a sled on which they were coast—
ing, and plunged into the Nor-walk
River. The accident was in the rent
of what was formerly Barry‘s saloon,
on Belden Hill avenue. The cries of
the unfortunate youngsters wore
heard by William Grey, who happened
to be near the spot at the time, and
prompt action by that gentleman, was
all that saved them. Medical assist-
ance was pummoned for one of the
pair, who seemed to be in a. serious
condition. No serious results have
yet developed however, and the chil«
dren seem to be none the worse for
their ducking.
