There was a meeting of the Lady
Washington Lodge. Shepherds of Be-
thlehem, held last evening, in their
headquarters in Red Men's Hall. on
Main street. A Christmas social was
part of the program. as was also the
election of oilicers for the ensuing
year. There was a line Christmas
tree, very prettily decorated, set up in
the rooms and presents for the mem-
bers were given out around the tree.
Refreshments were served and ii very
enjoyable evening was'spent. The new-

With the development of the Christ-
mas spirit in the community as such,
it has occurred to me that Norwslk
might well follow the example of a
number of cities in the west. in a
most simple and oilectlve custom. If
on Christmas eve on sunset and for
an honrmor two following in the resi-
dential part of "the'bity. people will ii-
iuniinate their houses by putting a
small lighted candle in each windovm
the enact will be surprisingly beauti-
ful. The candies can be arranged as
to be free from any danger of fire,
and by their combined light. give a
wonderful spirit of cheer and neigh:
borilness to the whole city. This is
a growing custom and cities once tak-
ing'it up, do not discard it. Let us
have a lighter Norwalk in our home
"section on Christmas eve. May I sng-~
gest that the women's. clubii' at the
town could do a grant deal to help in.
