Fairficld Ave. Division walls have been removed on the main
floor and steel columns covered with concrete support the ceiling.
All the old wooden stair'ways have been removed and have been
replaced with smoke-proof and fireproof stairw 11's. Those are
equipped with safctylrcads and furnished with automatic iirc-
roof doors. All the old elevators have been removed and have
con replaced by new fireproof elevators capable of carrying 30
people each These elevators are equipped with the laicsisiuriing
and stopping devices to protect human life The entire building
has been furnished with the latest and most modern sprinkling
system including something like 1 8(,)() s parole sprinkling outlets
which are continually under pressure, all of which insures safety
in case of fire 111 or near the Road Building. Every protection
against lire, such as fire- proof columns and fire doors have' been
[rovidcd to make the building as near fireproof as possible bv hu-
