WASHINGTON, Sept., 15 .—By om-

Engraving and Printing ’has met the
scarcity of dyestuffs. resulting from
war inEurope and now has available
enough pigments to color the Govern-
ment's money and stamps tor six
months. By the end of that period, Dir-
ector Ralph of the Bureau believes
that either a supply of colors made in
America will be available, or that ar-
rangements will be made for securing
ample shipments from Germany. When
wur‘brokc out the bureau reduced the
amount of color used in inks to mini-
mum. During the lat year the bureau
has obtained several small lots of col-
ors,’ and a good-sized shipment from
Germany was secured through diplo-
matic negotiations. The process, how-
ever. has been expensive. Director
Ralph said today that for small lots
of red dyesuhe had been forced to pay
seventyailve, eighty and ninety cents a
pound, compared with yenty cents
before the war began. ‘ i

the foreign market in producing one
coloi~ and‘turned to American. manor

coloring black ink. formerly imported
