THE WATER EXTENSIONS.
Mr. Editor: It seems to me that the
eftcnsion proposed at the council
meeting Monday night should have in-
cluded at least two additional items.
While there is no doubt that. more
water and more pressure are essential
in both Day and Water streets, it is
also of no little importance that right
now‘the open sewers between the rear
of South Main street and Woodward
avenue and our harbor should be clos-
ed and conveyed through proper sewer
pipes to its outlet. This is a constant
menace to public health, and an or-
fense to the eye. Bbth Day and Water
streets are factory property and the
sewage now flowing openly through
private properties should be taken
care of by the city authorities and
properly conveyed to its destination.
Then again, there is no line of com-
munication between South Main street
and Day streets from Raymond street
to Burritt avenue. nor from Day to
Water except through the same high-
ways. There should be a street mime.
