tion without representation is tyranny"
and has consistently protested aibng
this line when paying her taxes. But
when in addition to imposing an un-

fully declined. In the spirit of 1776
Dr. Shaw declined to‘be a party to an
act which violated the national Consti-
tution and returned the document
without making out the list.
In so doing Dr. Shaw did not violate
any law‘,‘ for the document stated that

the assessors should prepare it as far

property in order to make out a reason-
ably fair statement. in‘B‘Iead of so
doing the assessor arbitrarily placed
the amount at $30,000, and the tax bill
presented to llr. Shaw amounted to
3120. At the proper time Dr. Sliaw,
who was away on a lecture tour, sent
a legal representative to swear 0d the
excess amount, The commissioner re-
fused to listen to‘ this representative
and dcmanded‘that Dr. Shaw hersen
should make out the list. In 1914 an-
‘othcr list for the 1915 assessment was

heavier than the one heretofore used
[by the infantry, It is so much largerV
'and more comfortable..than the old
one that it is considered preferable
Either two saber-s or two rifles may
be substituted for the ordinary col-
Iapsihle poles in setting up one of
these tents. This is considered a dis-
tinct advantage. for it makes-it pos
sible to cut dawn the weight of the
haversack load on long marches.
Considerable complaint has been
made in the past regarding the small
size of the infantry tent. The cavalry
tent, however, is sixty-five inches in
length on the ridge, sixty-one inches
wide at the base, and when supported
on the collapsible poles stands about
fortythree inches from the ground at
the ridge. The canvas, which is Of an
olive drab color. is divided into twol
sections, which button together at the
ridge and along the slanting end. A:

buttons and buttonholes, so that any}
'two sections can be used together. .
The collapsible poles are made in 3
sections. When the tent is not in use
one of these poles and four pins are
wrapped in each half of the canvas,
