“Wicked" Murphy, who has been in
court off and on for the past twenty
years, appeared before Judge Lock~
wood again this morning on the charge
or drunkenness. The prisoner was ar-
rested yesterday morning by Sergeant
Thomas Htmt, following a complaint
of Manlce Lockwood. Murphy was on
his property and refused to get off.
The judge asked the prisoner what
sentence should be imposed and Mur-
phy replied that he wanted to be sent
away, but not to jail. This brought
out the fact that be is aiflicted with
tuberculosis and upon the recommen-
dation of the court he was given his
freedom. An effort will be made to
get him in an institution.”
