NEW YORK, July Iii—An explosion
wrecked a big grain elcyaior in Wee-
hawken. across the Hudson river from
New York, and severely injured a
half dozen men who were working
there yesterday. The elevator, con-
structed of steel concrete, belongs to
the West Shore Railroad Companv
and it was said that the damage
would be heavy.
The explosion was believed to have
occurred in the drying room on the
top floor, as the whole upper part of
the elevator was torn away. The po-
lice immediately started an investi-
gation to determine whether an ex-
plosion of grain dust or a 'bomb
caused the damage. The elevator bah
been handling much grain for export
to Europe since the war began.
