To Excape the Chance of Being
Taken Over for Government Pur-
poses—Late News From The War
Centers.
‘ LONDON, April 24.~—(Correspond-
once of The Assodated Press) It is
probable that a large number of Brb
tiah steamers in foreign ports will be
taken over by the Government owing
to immunity of suitable steamers in
this country:
It is stated by Admiralty officials
that British vessels are avoiding the
'United Kingdom owing to the proba-
W of their being taken over for
Government purposes, and such ships
{Ill new be commandeered wherever
they may be, as necessity crises. The
flipowner at present rates can make
about three times as much profit in
the open market as through a lease to
the Government.
TlheBritish Naly is still actively en-
gaged at Gibraltar in stopping steam-
els bound for port in the Mediterran-
ean and vessels meet with consider
able delays.
Special attention is being paid to
steamers having their cargoes or por-
tions of the cargoes assigned to Swits.

er which had been detained at Gibral-
tar 105 days before she was allowed
to proceed.
Shipowners are not taking the pre-
caution to stipulate that if any cargo
is destined to Switzerland it must be

COPENHAGEN, April 23.7.13. Cus-
toms Union between Germany, Aus-
