Judge Williams in the Civil Superior
Court yesterday issued a writ of man-
damus citing ,the selettmen of Stam-
ford to appear before him Tuesday
morning at 10 oclock and show cause
why they should not heed a petition
of 800 Stamford electors to call a spe-
cial election for choosing a town clerk.
William F. Waterbury, who was
town clerk of Stamford died on March
20 last and on that day the selectmen
, of the town appointed Edmund Ryan‘
to succeed him. A petition calling for
a special election to chose a town
clerk was circulated and presented to
the selectmen, but it is claimed by
the petitioners that no attention was
paid to it. Later the matter was
brought to the attention of State’s At-
torney Homer S, Cummings and he
signed the application for a writ of
mandamus.

Joseph Flint, proprietor of the Fair-
