The police declare that Ethel Files,
19. of Norwalk, and Mrs. Daminico,
aged" -5, were destined to New York
city as “white slaves,” when the po-
lice, through the resourcefulness of
the young women. were called to ap-
prehend the alleged “white slavers."
The police point to the fact that
DeBella‘s brother, John, is serving a
six year term in Wethersfield, for
forcing his own wife into the life of
the streets.
A city wide search is today being
made for DeBella. while the police
are closely investigating the history
of one J. E. B. Clark, an Englishman,
formerly stopping at the Atlantic Ho:
tel. who after inserting an advertise-
ment in Bridgeport papers three or
four weeks ago asking girls to apply
for a. vaudeville engagement introduc-
ed the Files girl to DeBella.
That the plot, which was frustrated,
was meant to extend further. and
may tend to throw illuminating light
on the history of other girls now be-
lieved to be held in New York is the
intimation made by policemen at
headquarters today, for It is known
that in a confession to the police
the Dominico woman has told how
she was held in a life of bondage by
her husband, and when she refus’ed

ly slashed across the hip that she re-
