HARTFORD, April 7.—The question
of woman suffrage was before the -
House today, a “field day" having been
provided for on the unfavorable re-
port of the Home Gommittee on Cons
atitutionai Amendments for an amend-
ment to the Constitution framing
equal suffrage. in anticipation of the
debate, the House galleries were filled
with women long before the session
opened. Messenger boys came and
went with scores of messages to mem-
bers. Some of these messages were
congratulatory for the member's sa-
sistance for the “cause," and others
pleaded for a favorable vote on the
amendment. Some members got as
many as seven telegrams from various I
persons in different sections of the j
state.
The proposed amendment was the
order of the day at 11:45. The rejec-
tion by the House of the amendment
would end the matter, so far'as this
session is c'oncerned. Rejection of the
committee's unfavorable report and
approval of the amendment would'
mend it to the next Legislature for rat-
ification. in either event, tie Senate
this year has nothing to do with the
matter. The proposed amendment
was as follows: “That the following
be proposed as an amendment to the
Constitution of the State, which when
approved and adopted in a manner
provided by the Constitution, shall to
