This arson case will probably be

perienced for some little time. Prose-
cutor William A. Griffin. Jr., has a
mass of evidence bearing on dilferent
angles of the case, and he will make
a big fight to bring the guilty parties
to justice. A stenographer has been
employed hy the state. and every
word of evidence is to be carefully

two bills of considerable interest and
outside the ordinary before the Ju-
diciary committee. involving persons
in Fairfield. Outsiders have also no-
ticed them because they mark a new
line ’ procedure. so for as capital
observers can recall.

' These bills are the petitions of Hel-

en Sherman Turnoy Sharpe and Rho-
da Marlon Sharps. asking for change
of name. The bills are assigned for
hearing next Wednesday before the
Judiciary committee at 2:15 p. m.

Mrs. Sharps was the wife of Her-
bert E. Sharps, former journalist in
Bridgeport. and present attorney in
Meriden She secured a divorce from
him and the custody of her daughter.

Not Allowed flange of Same.

In securing the divorce Mrs.
Sharps was not able to gain a change
of name. It is not the custom of
the courts to allow a change of name
when there are children."

Now Mrs. Sharps comes before the
general assembly with her daughter.
whi is approaching womanhood. to
secure what the courts would not
give. Both want a change of name
to Turney. '

Mr. and Mrs Sharps hale had
more or less court trouble over their
child since the divorce was granted.
He. claims his right to visit: his child.
grained by the court. has been stead-
ily‘hampered by his former wife.

at all happy The daughter is made

a petition to the court in Bridgeport
not long ago to secure a modification
of the decree. but was not successful.

This petition to the general assem-
bly is no doubt made in an effort to
still further break away from Mrs.
Sharps. How it will be received by
the committee and the assembly can-
not now be shown. The hearing
promises to be interesting. as it is
said Mr. Sharps may oppose thepe-
tltion.
