VCLAIM MADE THAT DREDGED
MUD DAMAGES OYSTERS.
HARTFORD. Feb. 21.-—That the
dumping of mud dredged from harbors
in the deeper waters of the Sound
caused much damage to the oyster in»
dustry and also damaged the harbor
channels, was claimed by Representa-
tive Perry before the committee on
public health and safety last week Mr.
Perry was favoring the adopting of a
resolution memorializing congress to
order the use of hydraulic dredgers
instead of the scow dredger, wherever
it is practicable.
By the hydraulic method Mr. Perry
said'much waste land near the water
front could be filled in. He
all companies were equipped now to do
hydraulic dredging but he believed
that if the 'war department should a-
ward contracts to be done in this way
only, all concerns would adopt
method.
