..immy Johnston, of the Garden. has
succeeded in coaxing Tom Jones into
a match between the winner of the
Cofley-Gunboat Smith fight and Jess
Willard, the bout to take place some
time in January.
Jones held out for a $10,000 guaran-
tee for his big cowboy. but Johnston
finally got Jones to agree to a fat per-
contage. Johnston informed Jones
that he wouldn’t guarantee anything
for the champions of the world. so
Jones thought the matter over and de
cided that a percentage of the receipts
would make a pretty good start for a
1915 B. 12...... Evidently Jones doesn’t
fear that he is running any risks in
spoiling the Johnson-Willard bout for
the world’s title. Such things have
happened though. Surely Coifey or
Smith are capable of hitting Jess hard
enough to spill the championship
beans. Perhaps Jack Johnson will
have a word to say about it when he
hears of the match.
