artillery—one each from Charleston. Savannah and Fort
llupont—havc been ordered to Panama for duty at the
canal fortifications. General Weaver, chief of the coast.
artillery, said last night that the war department planned
to increase the present force on the canal as the fortifi—
cations ncarcd completion and would ultimately station
twelve companies of artillery in the canal zone.
