Fire, resulting from an overheated
stove, broke out in John Kiss's tailor
shop, tn the Frank Ltbner's block. on
Bouton street, this momlng, at about
1:30 o‘clock, causing damages to the
building of 8400, which was covered by
insurance carried through J. M. Lay-
ton & Company, lnc.
An alarm was turned in at 1:35
o‘clock from Box 23, and when the
firemen arrived on the scene the inside
of the tailor shop was a mass of
flames. it was necessary to lay a line
of hose. and the firemen did good work
in confining the fire to the one store
and saving the remainder of the build-
ing. which is occupied by from five to
seven other tenants.
The fire was caused by a coal stove,

yesterday made a tour of.lnspection
through the Town Hall building, on
.Wall street, where it is proposed to
temporarily house the school children
during the coming term. It was in re-
lation to adequate fire exits that the‘
visitwas made. Chief Bogardus said
this morning that he regretted that
the children should be obliged teams
,the assembly ball, but it would be bet-
ter if the offices to be vacated by the
town clerk could be used instead.
Chief ’Bogardus will confer with Su-
perintendent of Schools Ira T. Chap-
man in regard to this matter. it will
be necessary to have fire escapes lead-
' ing from the assembly hall in the rear,
and the chief said that the expense
should be borne. by the owner of the
building and not the city.
