Deep River
HARTFORD, June 2.—dWith its
crew of three men asleep,. a shed fish-
ing motor boat was cut down by the;
steamer Hartford on the Connecticuti
River at the mouth of Selden's Cove,§
just below Deep River, about 2 o'clock;
yestelday morning, and Captain “Gil-'
bert Miller, owner of the boat, lost
his life. Fred Miller, his brother,
and bile third man, name not known,
escaped, being picked up by neighbor-
ing fishing craft. It is said that the.
motor, boat showed no lights and the
men had put their net in the water
and fallen asleep while making the
"drift." .

Yesterday’s Contests
For the first time in its history :Hiil-
side has had a real field day. Yester-
day afternoon in the presence of many
alutnnse,‘ friends of the school, and
mothers of the pupils, the girls played
off the final sets in all the games prac-
ticed during the spring and won lion-
ors for themselves in races and jumps.
it was a most exhilarating day. The
interest and enthusiasm that the girls
lhave displayed in their sports; their
willingness to compete and their mo—
desty in receiving reward proved that
the event was not only a success but
genuinely worth while.
As an incentive to competition the
whole school was separated into two
groups. To one-half was given the
