MILEFORD, May 22.—Elbert N. Clark
Milford contractor is defendant in the
Civil Superior Court today before
Judge Tuttle in two damage suits
brought by Pearl English and her
brother. Joseph W. Howe, of Norwalk.
Each suit is for $1.500 damages.
Elbert Clark was building a State
road between the towns of Ridgefield
and Wilton and Schpyler Prindle was
his foreman. One day Benjamin Howe,
father of the two plaintiffs. came to
,Prindle and asked him if he wanted to
buy any gravel for the road. The tore-
man did and an agreement was made
whereby Clark was to pay eight cents
a load for the gravel he took from the
Howe property.
Stanley Clark. a son of the defend-
(ant, testified today that he had super-
vision of the road work. which his fath-
er contracted for. and at the time the
,agreement was made with Benjamin
iliowe had the right to sell the grmel

confectioner of Main street. stated
this morning that he may bring suit
against the City of Norwalk for dam
ages resulting from the falling of his
horses upon the slippery tar- covered
pavement on West avenue. This morn-
ing another of his horses. the third
one to be exact, slipped and went down
in front of’ the Norwalk High School.
