the fact that the stamp window is a

to have statistics to support this con-
tention. Further than this it has been
found by the government that mail
matter in general. subject to the
handling of a large number of per-
sons. is almost as fertile a common
carrier of disease germs as the house
iiy, which has been busy defending
itself in o geenral awaiting campaign.
The post office department. is busy
framing a series of orders, the ob-
ject of which is to decrease the, pos-
sibility of the transmission ofmdisease
by mail equipment of mail matter In
general. The limit of this series ”of
orders were recently received at the
local post office. It has reference to
the manner. in which. clerks must.
pass stamps through the'window to
patrons. Clerks at the stamp window
are instructed always to hand out,
stamps with the gummed side up so
that the summed portion of the
stamp cannot come in contact with
the base of the stump window, and
thus serve as a vicioustv'collector for
bacilli of all kinds.

the trial of Mrs. Minnie May Eaton for
the murder of her husband. Rear Ado
miral Joseph G. Eaton.
For the first time since the trial
started there was no forenoon session,
court having adjourned yesterday un—
til this afternoon. in order to permit
the lawyers for the defense to gather
their witnesses. William A. Morse,
chief counsel for Mrs. Eaton. delegat~
ed to his assistant counsel, Francis J.
Geoga‘n the task of outlining to the
jury the testimony which will be intro
duced in an effort to disprove the gov-r
ernment's contention that the admir-
al's death was due to poison given him
by his wife.
It is expected that the defense will
occupy about three days in (he presen-
tation of evidence. Several prominent
naval officers. who Were acquainted
with Admiral Eaton during his active
service. are expected to testify as to
his habits while in the Navy. Among
them, it is understood, will be Rear
Admiral Charles E. Clark (retired).
Counsel for the defense intimated that.

what they know about allegations that
Rear Admiral Eaton had been accusc
