Haven, about 5:30 yesterday after-

4:30 a. m, the shape of the island was

Near St. George's a steam cutter fly-
ing the British flag came alongside
the "Machine" and presented a note

later returned. At 1 o‘clock members
of the crew were glvan shore liberty
and spent the afternoon exploring the
many quaint and odd scenes that the
island offered. Captain Hill paid an
atheist call on the governor-general
of Bermuda and received an invita-
tion to dinner. At 9:30 p, m. the
crew returned to the ship. supplies
were taken aboard. and early Thurs-
day morning the "Machine" left for
home. setting underway at 8 bells.
The weather was fair with a fresh
easterly wind and all sails were set to
help the vessel along, Good weather
continued with a smooth sea until the
gulf stream was reached, when it was
equally with a rough set. Friday night
at 8 o‘clock the Western edge of the
stream was reached and the ship was
180 miles from Montsuk Point.
Early yesterday morning the ship
began to get into the track of phasing

in touch with Newport. At 9:20 a. 111.
