John J. Burns, one of the linemen
employed in this section by the ,Pos-
tal Telegraph Company, was quite bad‘
ly injured this forenoon by a shock
v-and burns, and only narrowly escaped
plunging from the top of the pole to
the ground. He was engaged with sev-
eral other men in clearing up trouble
on the wires leading to the ofllces of
Maples & Goldschmlut, the Washing-
ton street brokers, and was on top of
the pole oppdsite Itedman B. Tripp's
lunch wagon at the railroad bridge.
. In some manner his hands came in
contact within live wire, and he re-
ceived such a shock that he fell over
unconscious. He landed on two other
live wires, one of which was directly
across his neck and the other across
his back. Ted Moody. who happened
to be the only other man on the pole
at the tinih, caught hold of Mr. Burns
and prevented him falling to the

a crowd, and assistance of two other
linemen. A rope was secured and the
injured man was removed from the
