Big Parade in New Haven Had

NEW HAVEN, Aug. 28.—~Despito
the fall of rain, the state firemen.
thirty organizations of which had
come to town for the annual field day
of the association, held their parade
yesterday, although the line of march
was considerably shortened. Previous
to the parade, a brief business session
of the association was held to clean
up businfiss deft unfinished from the
annual convention held yesterday.
This included the appointment of
committees and adoption of various
resolutions.
Just as the parade was about to
start the rain came down in torrents,
and the firemen took shelter wherever
they could find it most quickly. on
piazzos, in barns and sheds and
stores. Later the rim let up and the
men formed again. The second ReglI
ment Band took its place at the head
of the line and burst into the strains
of “Praise God From Whom All Bloss-
ings Flow." Hardly had the line got,
into motion, however, before Jupiter
Pluvins again took command, and the
paraders again broke for shelter This
time the rain laSted for a considera-
lble period. As soon as the heaviest
downpour was over the. parade start-
(Id again and moved over a two-mile
line from the town hall to the shore.
,The men were soaked to the skin and
it was considered doubtful if the (Ion.
tests which had been arranged. would
be run off.
At the business meeting resolutions
were adopted thanking the town of
Orange, the (borough of west Ii'laven. .
Selectman Walter Main, and others
for their hospitality.

of deputy sheriffs and constables yes-
terday raided twenty-two houses.
