the morning there was no wind. At
the proper starting time the wind
came, but an ugly squall was making
up and Chairman Bencher set the post-
ponement signal. The yachts kept
their moorings in the harbor, and
those that had come from other har-
bors lowered all canvas. Then the
squall broke and there was lightning,
thunder and heavy rain. It was about
3 o’clock when it had cleared away
and than there came a nice sailing
breeze from east southeast. Short
courses were selected and signalled
and these gave the yachts windward
work to‘the first marks off Hemystead
harbor.
About 6 o'clock the wind died out
and the tide not many of the yachts
back. Later it. freshened a little and
allowed all to get home soon after sun-
set.
