Life Savers to Run Event on

For. the championship of Connecti-
cut, a. race estimated at about three
miles in length will be held under
the auspices of the United Volunteer
Life Saving Corps. Roton Point Di-
vision. on Sunday afternoon, August
10th. three weeks from last Sunday.
The race will be open to all swim-
mers and promises to be the best
ever run around this section of the
country. It will be held rain or shine,
starting promptly at 2:30 o'clock. i
Crack swimmers have signified their
intention of entering the race and it
is expected that Bridgeport, New Ha-
ven. New London. New York and
Stamford will be recognized amongf
the forty odd athletes to start. The‘
race is attracting wide attention in
the swimming and acoustic circles.
and promises to be a bummer.
There are several stipulations about l
the race which must ‘be‘ carried in‘
mind by those planning to enter their
names. Each swimmer must have n
trainer and an oarsmnn (two men in
his boat); he must have a boat and
if he furnihes it himself he man en-
ter for fifty cents. but if he comes
hontless, the entrance fee will be a
dollar and a half. lie must be on
hand by 2 o'clock for the race starts
a. half hour thereafter and the com-
mittee must compile its data and
make all final arrangements in that
time.
The race will start from the Roton
Point dock and the same course as
followed last year will be covered.
The swimmers will reach out Sound-
ward to the Green’s Reef lighthouse,
which they will leave on their left
hand, thence returning over the course
to a given point from which» they will
be taken into their boats. Last year
cold water and a choppy sea caused
half of those who started to give up
without completing the course, and
it is hoped that this will not be neces»
snry this year.
On this afternoon the title will rise
to a height of 7.1 feet, and will reach
its height at 5:” o'clock. A study
of the currents should be made by
those local boys who anticipate enter
