i HARTFORD, April 5.——-When the
hearing was held recently before the
committee on new towns and probate
idistricts, Representative Pardee said
“that the time would come when the
cities would have to unite in order to
secure equitable lepresentation in the
1General Assembly. Mr Wilson, of
Bridgeport in an address in the house,
also pledlcted that the cities would
have to take steps to protest their
rights

The decorations proved to be a
' novel and most attractive feature, and

‘ furnishing the tire proof decorations,
i proved that it thoroughly Understood
l such matters. The general "color
! scheme of blue and white prevailed,
and formed the ground work for the
ndornments of the ceiling and side-
_wniits, which were draped in these
colors, and effectively concealed the
bare appearance of the structure.
Over the body colors, at frequent in-
tervals, were beautifully draped
shields of American flags, alternating
with the Elks colors, purple and white.
The electrical effects and illumination
had been especially designed for the
occasion. At the conclusion of the
concert program the lights were ex-
itinzulshed, and the big star which to
the members oi the Elite order is em-
blematic of fidelity. was lighted in
thc center of the hall. and continued
to burn throughout the evening, The
clock, with the hands placed at 11,
another Elk symbol, in memory of
the absent brothers, was lighted, and
the other lights were gradually turn
ed on, making a decidedly pretty of
feet. The space under the balcony
was cut-tallied off. and in a portion of
this refreshments were served.
