IH-ARTFORD, Jan. 15.—Tobacco grow-
ers from various parts oi New Eng-
land and many particularly from
IHartford county, attended the annual
meeting of the New England Tobacco
Growers' Association. in this city, re-
:cohtly, about 600 being, present. The
(president,‘.loseph W. Alsop, of Avon,
'presldedt Mayor Louis R. Cheney
made an address of (welcome. Prost-
dont Alsop reviewed the work of the
association the past year. He referred
to the hearing to be held. before the
Congressional Ways and Means com-
mittee in Washington, January 17 on
‘ the tobacco schedule. Mr. Alsop said
the committee would probably not sl-
ow the New England growers more
than 15 or 20 minutes at the hearing.

President Alsop referred to the suc-
cess of the organization of citrus grow-
ers on the Pacific slope and what had
been achieved through (lo-operation in

tobacco growers of New England might
