NEW YORK. Oct. (lb—Charles
Becker. the former police lieutenant
convicted of procuring the murder of
the gambler. Hermon Rosenthal. was
today sentenced to tile in the electric
chair at Sing' Sing during the week
of December 9. The sentence was
pronounced by Justice (left at 10:40
o‘clock.
Mrs. Becker had a short talk with
the prisoner shortly after 9 o‘clock
in ’the sheriff's quarters at the Crimi-
cheeri‘ully to the condemned man to
give him courage.
Mrs. Becker and her brothersun-
law pleaded with the sheriff to delay
Becker‘s removal to Sing Sing. They
said the prisoner should be permitted
to stay in this city for several days
at the least, in order to adjust his
business affairs. The sheriff. how
ever, announced that he would take
Becker away toduy.
