in Waterbury, to Bishop Nlian re-
garding any trouble in conducting the
affairs of the parish, according to a
statement made over thatelenllone‘by
the Rev. John G. Murray oi! Hartford,
chancellor of the diocese, says the
Waterbury American.’ Furthermore
the diocesan authorities realize, ac-
cording to Father Murray. that any
charges made are the result of the
activity of "noublemakers and are
wholly unfounded" The trouble
started when some of the dissatisfied
members of the parish circulated the
story tliut the organist of the par-
ish. Giovanni Tommusl, had been
married four years ago to his step-
mother, Pressedo Tommasi, the house-
keeper, and that both were living in
the parish house. The story is denied
by,all concerned and Father Karam
explained the situation,
“Mrs. Tommasi comes of a good
family in litaly and this publicity is
repugnant to her." said the priest.
“When her husband died, be com-
mitted his three step-children to her
care, and Giovanni came here with
her to select me. They are a great
help to myself and to the parish in
general for they accept no money for
their work, and this means alot to
us as there is a heavy debt on the
church. When they had been in Wat-
erbury some time they Went to New
York and us they had "a natural ni'lec-
tion of mother and stopped, and be«
cause Mrs. Tommasi, out of what she
considered regard for her‘ dead hlls‘
band. did not wish Giovanni to leave
her, they were married while in New
York by a justice of the peace.
Marriage Null and Void.
When they came back to Waterbury
they consulted n lawyer, and were in-
formed that the marriage was null
and void according to the laws of the
state or New York. They were then
‘golug to apply for n dispensation and
were informed that there was no need '
of 1111s there was no marriage at all
in the eyes of either civil or church
authorities. 11 was wholly to keep
Giovanni with her that Mrs. Tom-

lived together.

the trustees to make any complaint to

story of selfishness and meanness on
