The supreme court of errors for the
state of Connecticut, yesterday, hand-
ed down a decision, upholding the su-
tempt proceedings in the so-cailed
reports gratuities case. This was
the case of Clarence Deming and oth«
ers against ThomasD. Bradstreet and
others, asking why the state treasurer
and state controller should not he"
held in contempt for paying gratuities
of $300 to 11 newspaper reporters.

Clarence Deming, Henry W. Farnam,
Rutherford Trobrldge, Horace ID.
Taft and Irving H. Chase, that on
April 4, 1911, the state senate adopt-
ed a resolution in amendment of its
rules which in substance required the
president pro tempore of the senate
to designate 11 reporters of Connec-
ticut papers to report the proceedings
of the senate and required the cou-
troller to draw his order on the treas-
urer for $300, to each of the reporters.
On April 6, the president pro tem-
pore pursuant to the resolution, des-
ignated the following to report the
proceedings of the senate: Charles W.
Pickett, New Haven loader; Joseph
Mullin, Hartford Times; J. Olin Howe,
Meriden Journal; Louis E. Thayer,
Hartford Post; James L. McGovern,
