the crowd gathered rapidly. The fire'
was supposed to be at the summit of
the hill leading up to Prospect avenue'
from Union Park, a paixculurly steep
and stony hill, in n v y bud condi-
tion, yet the Phoenix Engine Com-
pany's hose wagon went to the top.

Amsrican Alliance which was held at
Arlen Hall, in Westpont, last evening.
The members report that. they had a
delightful time. The club rendered
several excellent selections which
were appreciated by all present.
Considerable excitement accompan-
ied the journey home when the mus-
tang owned by Henry Wilkins, with
which the owner. Henry Krete and
Gus Mbeiler’Imade the trip over, broke
his hitch rope" and ran away down
