When on March 19th the wires
conveye'll the message to Westport
that the young sculptor, Harry
Daniel Webster had died at Chapel
Hill, Texas, on that morning, amaze-
ment and incredulity was mlnzled
with the sorrow manifested on every
hand. (or it seemed some error must
have occurred in the trsnsrnission of
the tidings. Mr. Webster was in the
early thirties, of a splendid physique,
endowed with‘lndornitable energy and
had written that he would return
home in a few weeks.
Like most men who are leaving
their impress on the world's attain
manta. his pathway through life was
bestrewed with obstacles. that re:
quired great perseverance and un-
bounded mm in his ability to over- I'

Mr. Webster was born in Rowen.
laws. to which place his father had
removed from the out some years
previous. While Daniel was still a
led, his father died leaving the bring~

ultimately to win success; he was

the house in which she now resides.
While in the High school at Sioux
Falls Mr. Webster studied clay mod-
eflng and becoming quite an adopt in
the art. be determined to prosecute
his studies under more favorable con-
ditions. came blast and was at first
with a class in the Adirondack Moun-
tains, and later in the Art Magoo at
New York city. His advancement
was rapid and he was soon giving in.
