the winter was very severe. took this

made apparatus for this work. Subse-
ouent winters proved to be so mlld'

arrangements are now being made to

(‘Irrle A. Scott, of Ridgodeld. was
granted a divorce from Winfield Scott,
of Norwalk, on the ground of deser-
tion. and the plaintiff was also given
permission to drop the historical name
of her husband. which she has carried
for 34 years. The story of the plain
tiff was a bit out of the ordinary. She
married the martial Winilcld Scott in
December, l878, and lived in Nor-
walk. Scott turned out to be a queer
duck. He had no particularly bad
habits, but he was a hermit in his own
house; and a rare bird. He refused to
support her. and his wife had to go
to work in the hat factory of Crofut
& Knapp. lie worked in a shoe
factory. The husband's quoorness in-
creased with age, and the family
iinally became a divided one, each
having their own room. their own
corners, their own chair. and cooked
their own food. it,ilnal|y became un-
bearable.
