.Whenever Whitelaw Reid, the Amer-
ican ambassador Io‘London. is in New
York. he evinces a deep interest to his
newspaper, the Tribune. One after-
noon when it was hot enough in the
big city to cook a steak on the side-
walk, he telephoned from a cool re-
treat in the country to his managing
editor:

weather. .It's hot, and the people want
to read .nhout it. Don‘t fall to have a
good story."
The managing editor issued the or-
der to the city editor, who, In turn,
transmitted it to a reporter. At 2
