VIOLIN MAKING IN GERMANY.
A Chance for Atom to Oupply the
Needed Kind of Maple.

According to a consider report from
Germany-tho wood principally used
In the manufacture of violins is the
Io-called “‘flamod” or curled maple.
Bird's-eye movie is used only to a
slight orient, being employed more
in the manufacture of guitars than
violins. This “flamed” maple is now
obtained from the mountainous dlI-
trictI of Eastern Austria. it in found
growing in rugged places. the “llama"
seemingly being all the better the
more mined the soil.

in order to make use of all the
wood that is suitable and to saw the
name so as to bring out the “llama"
to the best advantage, the wood II
brought to Marlineukircben. where
the great skill and experience re-
quired in its working are found. The
trees are sawed into lengths of 1.20
to about 3 metres (metrewws feet).
Extreme care must be taken with’tho
wood. as every mark detracts from
the value. Only those trees cut after
the sap goes down in the fall and bo-
fore it returns are suitable for violin
