Nathan Seelye Gilbert, one of Beth-
el’s oldest and respected citizens,
passed away at his home on South
street about 8. 30 yesterday morning.
Mr. Gilbert had been in very feeble
health for some time, but was able
to‘sit mirror a portion of the time each
day, until Monday when he was taken
with a chill and pneumonia developed.

distinct lover of his home, he bad on-
iairs, but was most highly esteemed
by all who knew him. Tire deceased
was born in Bethcl and with the on

West, had resided there all his llle.

Gilbert and had he lived until next
month, would have been 83 years of
ago. He was a better by trade. one of
the socalled “old~tlme batters," for he
understood it in all its branches, hav-
