When the guards approached the pris
oner and inquired what the. trouble
was, Rev. Mr. Richelieu said excited-
ly: “I've cutwml'self—wi’m bleeding to
death!" .
The prison doctor was hurriedly
called and when be inspected Ricilcn
son he found that the man had cut
himself severely in the vicinity of the
groin. Other surgeons were sent for
and their hasty arrival caused consid-
erable excitement among the prison?
era. , Four surgeons worked over
Richesou for some time and it was
found necessary to resort to a drastic
operation. Richeson was put under
the influence of an anaesthetic and
the operation, which was performed
shortly before daylight, was said to be
a successful one, * ,
The prisoner was uni removed from
the lull during the early morning
hours, the surgeons working in the
hospital section of the prison.
Newu of Richeson‘s act became pub-
lic in an unusual way. A short term
priaoner at the lull who was discharg-
ed this morning, hastened to the office
of a newspaper and told of tho occur
rouce. The lull officials at first pro-
fessed to know nothing about the
story: Later they admitted that the
minister had injured himself.
After Sheriff Seaway bad summoned
the physicians, that official telephoned
to Attorney Morse, of Richesou's noun
sel, and acquainted his with the facts.
Mr. Morse wont avenge to the Jail
and upon reaching the cell found Rich-
esou on the cot in his cell, weak but
conscious, with two doctors working
over him. ‘
Shortly afterwards Richeson was
carried to the jail hospital. Two oth-
er surgeons were summoned and at 6
a, m. an operation demanded by condi-‘
tions was performed. The surgeons
afterward expressed the opinion that
he would recover. ,
The physicians phowed the lawyer a
piece of tin shaped something like a
knife, one edge of which ind been
shortened on the stone floor of the
cell. ‘
The short term prisoner Who was
freed this forcnoon said that he had
a coil near that of iticbeson and heard
him scraping something on the floor

The discovery was made by one of
the watchmen and for a couple of
hours the jail was greatly excited.
Attorney Morse refused to comment,

Church of Cambridge. is the murder of
Avis binneil, on the night of Saturday,
“October 14. Misaliinueli, a girl of
19 years, was a native of Hyannls, a
small Cape Cod village, where Riche
sou formerly preached, and was study-
ing at the New England Conservatory
of Music in this city. Miss Linnell
was found dying in a bathroom in the
Young Women's Christian Association
building, on Washington street, :Bcs-
ton. where she lodged. Athrstdt was
believed that the young woman had.
taken poison with suicidal intent, but
a day or two later it became known
that she had taken cyanide of potas~
slum in the belief that it would remedy
her condition."
On the day following Miss Linneli's
death Richeson preached his last ser-
