Captain Thomas Hunt, of the hier-
wulk police force, made a capture yes-
terday afternoon. when he detained
Frank Meskaisi. a Hungarian of Roton
lHiii. for driving a horse which the
latter claims belongs to George. Ai-
masi, also of Roma Hill, when the
animal wmso bound up in the runs-
cles from spaviu that he could not
step on his left hind foot. Dr. Gilbert
M, Brundage has diagnosed the case
‘asa serious one and recommends that
the animal be shot. as worthless in his
condition. Captain Hunt has notified
General State Agent Samuel A. Gard
nor. of the State Humane Society, and
the latter may come to Norwaik on
the vase tomorrow or Friday.
Captain Hunt was doing duty in up-
per Main street when Mcskaiai drove;
the animal across the tunnel at. thel
Norwalk depot. it was easily seen that
the horse was suffering untold agony
in trying to walk and the police can
lain stopped the turnout. The wagon
had a load of cabbages. The Minor de-

VERDICT OF MURDER GIVEN.

After but twenty minutes of delibera-
tion today the jury which heard the
testimony in the case of Bienin Crave-
greer. charged with «the murder of Jo-
'soph Brigham, returned a verdict of
guilty. The evidence was circumstnii-
ital.
Brigham was shot and-titilled as he
lay in bed at his home on the night of‘
Oct. iii, the shot being fired through
