Hungarian laborers in the employ of
Martin Bates. Jr., & Company. of
Spring street, narrowly escaped seri-
ous injury yesterday morning. when
the cables of an elevator. upon which
they were loading bales of skins.
broke, causing the elevator to drop
suddenly and throwing the men aside
with some l‘orce. Mr. .lado sustained
a slight scalp wound. which incapaci-
tated him for working during the tiny

resumed his work.
