The weather observers reported that

The Dory Social Club a live organi‘
zation of East Norwsik young men,
celebrated its third anlversary with a
dance and reception last evening at
the club quarters in Cove street. where
the members and their guests bad a
fine time.
The fire at Oyster Bay last evening
started the report here. as elsewhere
along the sound,"that a vessel was
burned. Definite information was a
long time coming and even this morn-
ing it was still reported that the fire
was on a boat.
Horse owners here are cautioned the
same as elsewhere in the town to be-
ware of the horse disease. glauders.
which appears to be spreading among
the horses in this town. Only last.
Saturday a horse was shot in East ave.
nus because it was determined that
the animal had the disease.
The operations of the mud digger
at the McMuilen‘Judab island prop-
erty on the South Norwalit side of the
harbor continue to be of much inter-
est. It is readily apparent even from
East Norwallt that Mr. McMahon will
make useable a large amount of pro.

for the extra day but her demand was
not complied with.

Contractor Ambrose Crockett has a
large amount of work at present in
Wiunlpauh, and is constructing seven
al cottages on a tract of land owned
by John B. Lawrence. the real estate
agent in South Norwalk. Albert Hib-
ler is now employed by Mr. Crockett.
The big fire of the residence of Wil-
liam Macy Walker. of Oyster Bay.
Long island, was plainly seen here ear-
ly last evening. One of the incoming
oyster steamer crows stated that they
believed at first that it was a steamer
on fire, and one of the oystermen ev.
en went so far as to say he saw the
vessel in full blaze, and two tags were
towing it toward the Long island
shore. When it was learned where
the fire was some'of the residents of
the village thought the boutmuu had a
very vivid imagination.
An important meeting of the “away-
lou Hose Company was held last night
at which the matter of equipment was
under discussion. it was voted to pur~
chase 1.000 feel of rubber base
through A. .l. Angevlue. of Scull: Nor»
walk, and to raise the money required
for it by popular subscription. Chief
, id. W1 Godfrey. of the department. and
\Formsr Chief E. i. Biovens were ap.
pointed a committee to solicit the
funds. it is planned to have the hose
available with the arrival of the new
combination hose and chemical wagon
which is to be shipped February iih.
The new apparatus is expected to
reach Rowayton by the 10th of the
month. The new apparatus will be
supplied with an arrangement in have
it drawn by a horse of by hand.

Mrs. Mark Baker. wife of Henri
‘Bailer. Rosevllle district, passed away
Monday morning after an illness of
many months. Mrs. Baker was in her
88th year and for 10 years has been
the head of a family of live genera-
tions. Besides her aged husband and
several children. many grand and great
grand children are left to mourn her
demise. Funeral services will be held
from her home Thursday afternoon.

The number of accidental deaths for
last month amount to 52. an increase
of 12 over the total of the preceding
month. The suicides for Johnny total
l7 and there were two homicides.
Deaths resulting from falls. and being
hit by trains. both having 10, while
drowning and burning follow, with 9
and ii respectively. Five met death by
asphyxiation. three were crushed and
two, were shot. The trolley car and
automobile claim one victim each.
In the suicidal list the figures show
that all: persons chose to end their
lives by hanging. four by tailing car-
bolic acid. three by shooting. two by
cutting. and one each by drowning and
laudanum. The two homicides resul-
ted from shooting and cutting.
