The following letter was published
in The Sentinel some few years ago.

contemplated change in the city‘s form
or government. it is to be hoped that
the city will be exceedingly cautious
and slow to adopt any change unless
it can be proved to be greatly to her
advantage. ller independent and pro-
gressive spirit ought to lend to

has well earned. an honorable record
on its pages. This part of the town
was among the llrst to resist the en-
croachmenta of the British and to
heroically defend it lrom invasion and
annihilation. South Norwnllt furnish
ed more than her quota of enlisted
men during the war or the Rebellion.

The name of Norwelk is high up
country; let us not for a moment cast
a seeming slur upon it. it there is
any priority 01 right to the home which
the lndiens gave this settlement. then
onrly a claim as any part of the town
West of the river. East Norwaik has.

The local names known as
“Bridge" and as “Old Well." wan
simply neighborhood terms. The
“Bridge" was the nucleus of the tradr

The dinner and supper served yes-
terdays noon and laal evening at the
former Decker store in Washington
street. under the auspices of the LI-
dies' Aid Society 01 the First hi. E.
Church, was very successful in every
particular. ,
The attendance for the supper was
as large as for the dinner and the van-
ture will clear :50 or more tor the 80»
oiety's trenury. The same ladies who
were engaged in the serving of the
dinner, assisted tor the supper.
