Mia. Winchester-Donnie. who was
the mother of Albert in. Winchester,
with whom one made her home when
here, was well know in Norwalk. and
her many friends will be deeply griev-
ed at. this sad news. though the end
had been expected for many months,
since it became ltt'iowu that her trip
of some four years ago to the" Pacific

been unsuccessful. "or age was 63
and the funeral will be held with
friends in Los Angeles. on Tuesday.

My Dear Friend:
Knowing that you are counted
among my mother's dear old-time
friends. i know that you will be sad-
ly interested in what i am about to
tell y.ou Some four years ago, after
having suffered ever since she came.
from her old home in Mexico. several
yearn previous. in live with me in
this city. she loin. health so rapidly
that a change to a warmer climate
op necessary. 80 four years
left for a few
months‘ sojourn at Lee Angelou. Cali-
fornia. where she grew worse gradu‘
ally, regardless of the best medical
Ililll. until now she is in a hospital
near hos Annalee. patiently awaiting
the end. which has been expected to
come at any time. My daily bulletins
tell me that she cannot last more than

three internal disorders, any of which

dihicult for her to see or talk. She
kept up her literary work until she
could no longer write. aside from
which her life has been devoted to
doing good. hence her riches to
friends. and the great aorrow that is
spreading throughout her own country
and Mexico
in the latter country she holds a
protocoorahip under the govornmont.
- as one was the founder in that coun-
try of the American standard of edu-
cation. which she developed beyond
our own high levels of the timoa. and
under which great work her health
gave way and she came to live with
me; became again attached to her old
love, literary work, which she con—
tinued as long after going to Califor-
nia. so her suffering would permit.
with the some old time success, which
has made her so well known and won
so natural to her. As an author of
great influence in down to date
thought. she. has been a wonderful
power. but from choice. has hidden
her identity behind her work, so that
her efforts, not her personality. should
shine out up the world in their full
strength. As a revloer and a reviewer.
which work ahe did until strength
failed. she stands. and will our stand.
the unknown finisher of grand gems
of modern literature. which bear the
names of others. but whose beautiful
sentiments were the wine of her mind
clone.
For her to earn money was an easy
task. but her play was to spend it
